The University of Arizona Police Department received a report of stalking from Campus Security Authority that occurred on Oct. 3 at 4:33 p.m. According to the report, a female student, while on the University of Arizona main campus, was approached in a car by a male asking if she wanted a ride. The male circled back in his car to make a second inquiry if she wanted a ride. The exact location of the stalking is unknown.
On Friday afternoon, UAPD sent a Clery Timely Warning alerting the campus of the incident. It is unknown whether this is related to similar instances notified by the community last month.
The suspect is described as a white male in his 60s or 70s, balding with white hair, a beard and a goatee. He was reported to be last seen wearing a blue and white striped shirt and sunglasses. UAPD said the suspect’s vehicle was described as white with a license plate that began with “DN.”
Marvin Smith, UA Public Information Officer, commented on why the campus was notified through the Timely Warning system and not UAlert. “It’s not an active incident that is impacting somebody right now,” Smith said.
Smith said UAlert texts are used for actively occurring incidents that may impact the campus community at the moment, such as potential shooting situations or gas leaks.
According to UAPD anyone with information about this crime, or knowledge about recent similar incidents, should contact them at 520-621-8273. If you wish to remain anonymous, you can call 88-CRIME (520-882-7463).
UAPD referred individuals affected by the incident to the resources listed on the UAPD Victims Resources Page.
