After a rough start in doubles play, the University of Arizona women’s tennis team flipped the script in singles competition, securing four crucial wins to take down the University of California, Santa Barbara 4-3 on Friday, Feb. 14.
The Wildcats (6-3) dropped the doubles point after falling on all three courts, allowing the Gauchos to take an early 1-0 lead.
Freshman Tanvi Narendran was the first to score for Arizona, cruising past UCSB’s Ali Benedetto 6-3, 6-2. Arizona’s Martyna Ostrzygalo followed with an upset victory over No. 74 Anna Weissheim, winning 6-2, 6-4 to even the match at 2-2.
Zoya Chulak then delivered in a three-set battle, outlasting Lily Pradkin 6-0, 4-6, 6-2 to give Arizona its first lead. With the match on the line, Danielle Tuhten clinched the victory, grinding out a 7-5, 6-4 win over Emma Tutoveanu.

Arizona now shifts its focus to the Sunday, Feb. 16 home match against No. 23 Texas Tech University. The first serve is set for 10 a.m. at LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.
