A woman was stabbed at the University of Arizona Main Library, 1510 E University Blvd, Tuesday afternoon, according to the Office of Public Safety.
“At approximately 2:12 p.m. today, the University of Arizona Police Department received a 911 call,” Chief Safety Officer Steve Patterson said in an email statement. “A female victim has been transported to a local hospital, and a male suspect has been detained by law enforcement.”
Neither individuals are U of A students, Patterson wrote. Wednesday morning, Provost Patricia Prelock sent an email to students and faculty stating the identities of the two would remain anonymous due to their status as minors.
“Yesterday’s incident at the Main Library cast a shadow over our excitement as we prepare for the start of the new academic year,” Prelock wrote, as the incident took place while students moved into university dorms. “I understand that an event such as this can be unsettling for our community. Please take advantage of the many resources available at the university to find the support that may be helpful to you.”
