As students were busy getting ready for finals, crime was still well and active at the University of Arizona. From mid to late April, the University of Arizona Police Department came across yet another fight at the Tyndall Avenue Garage, a fraternity brother investigating a burglary at his own frat house and more.
Porch pirate getaway causes car crash, one injured
On April 15, UAPD responded to a three-car-crash at Highland Avenue and Drachman Street. After investigating the scene, police determined that the driver of a silver Jeep that contained one passenger and the driver’s 1 and a half-year-old, was at fault.
According to UAPD, the Jeep’s passenger had stolen an Amazon package from a nearby house, and they were fleeing the scene when they crashed.
The driver was injured in the crash, but the passenger and the driver’s daughter came out unscathed. All three were taken to Banner – University Medical Center Tucson.
The mother of the young girl was notified, and she came to pick up her daughter. Upon searching the Jeep, police found weapons and prescription drugs. The passenger was arrested, and an arrest warrant was put out for the driver.
Fisticuffs near the Tyndall Garage
Around 2:30 a.m. on April 19, UAPD officers were flagged down regarding a fight near Tyndall Avenue and Fourth Street. As officers arrived, a group near where the fight had been dispersed. Police found one man with a bruised face, who told officers he had been attacked by four men. He stated that he was not able to give any further description of the alleged attackers. None of the other bystanders provided police with any helpful information either.
Upon reviewing security camera footage from the nearby Tyndall Avenue Garage, police saw the man they had contacted in a verbal altercation with one other man. The two men started pushing each other, and a fight ensued. The fight broke up just before officers arrived on scene.
Property recovered after frat house burglary
The morning of April 28, a member of Delta Chi reported that someone had burgled their fraternity house. In security camera footage that the victim showed UAPD, they saw the suspect come in through the unlocked sliding door and leave with several laptops, Apple AirPods, a backpack and a speaker.
Roughly 2 hours after he made the initial report, the victim reached out to police again, to say he found the laptops through location tracking underneath some cardboard south of campus.
Not even 2 hours after that, he reached out again to say that while he was at Reid Park working on a class project, he spotted the suspect with the stolen speaker in tow.
Officers went to the park and made contact with the suspect, who had both the stolen speaker and the backpack with him. The suspect was arrested for drug and drug paraphernalia possession and burglary.
Man denied free Wendy’s burger, starts beef
On April 27, UAPD responded to a report of a man throwing something at a glass window. The Wendy’s manager identified the man who had broken the window.
Police determined that the suspect became upset after he was denied a free hamburger and punched the door, breaking the window, as he left.
Burglary at Likins
A UA student living in Likins Residence Hall reported that her room had been broken into while she was out of town April 24-26. She reported that her perfume and a Lululemon bag that contained several gift cards were stolen from her room.
Bike, E-scooter and moped thefts
From April 9 to May 4, there were four reported bicycle thefts, two reports of stolen electric scooters and one moped reported stolen.
