Another day, another national watch list for Arizona men’s basketball forward Stanley Johnson.
On Thursday, the Atlanta Tip-Off Club announced that the freshman was named to the Naismith Trophy Midseason Top 30. Johnson is one of three Pac-12 players on the watch list and one of five overall freshmen.
The list will be narrowed down to 10 next month and then four, before the winner is named on April 6.
On Wednesday, Johnson was named to the John R. Wooden Award Late Season Top 20.
Johnson leads the Wildcats in scoring (14.6 points per game) and rebounding (six per game) and is one of just two freshmen in major college basketball conferences, along with Jahlil Okafor of Duke, to average at least six rebounds and 14 points per game.
Johnson is 12th in the Pac-12 in scoring and is second among freshmen. He is also seventh in the league in steals, with 1.5 per game.
The Fullerton, Calif., native is third in the nation for freshman free-throw attempts at 134, which is the all-time 10th-most by a UA rookie.
Johnson has led the Wildcats in scoring 12 times and rebounding on nine occasions and, in 23 games, has scored in double-figures 20 times. He was named MVP of the EA Sports Maui Invitational in November.
