USA Basketball announced Saturday that former Arizona basketball player Andre Iguodala was named to the 2012 London Olympics men’s basketball team.
Iguodala, a 6-foot-6, 207-pound forward who just completed his eighth season as a member of the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers, is making his second appearance as a part of the senior men’s national team.
In 2010, Iguodala averaged 6.7 points and 4.6 rebounds for the Gold-medal-winning U.S. FIBA World Championship. Iguodala also led the team in steals, with 16 and started all nine games.
Iguodala is the second Wildcat to represent the United States in the Olympic Games. Richard Jefferson (1998-2001) was a part of the 2004 Athens games.
“All of us here would like to congratulate Andre Iguodala on making our 2012 Olympic basketball team,” Arizona head coach Sean Miller said in a statement. “In today’s world of pro sports, there aren’t many accomplishments that hold the significance of making this team.”
The 2012 Olympic Games will be held in London, England July 27-Aug. 12.
