According to a statement on the University Medical Center’s website they met the immediate need for blood donations in the wake of Saturday’s shootings.
People waited in line for several hours at American Red Cross donation sites on Wednesday in order to donate blood, according to the statement.
While hospitals have the amount of blood needed for the victims of the shooting and other “”emergency and routine patient needs”” it will take time to replenish Tucson’s blood supply
In the statement Darrin Greenlee, CEO of American Red Cross Blood Services said they will need “”donors steadily later this week and for the next several weeks”” and advised those interested to make appointments to minimize waiting time.
Those with type O negative and O positive are encouraged to donate because type O was used in response to the shooting.
