Hey Dad, the cops are here
A University of Arizona Police Department officer responded to a call from a resident assistant in Navajo-Pinal Residence Hall who complained of a disturbance in the room above hers on Aug. 25 around 2 a.m.
The RA told officers that people in the room were making loud noises and thumping on the floor. The officers went up to the room and spoke with the two residents, who let the officers come inside their room. The officers noticed an open 16-ounce can of Keystone Light beer in plain view.
The officers read the students their rights, but one of the men said he would not answer any questions until he spoke to his father. One of the officers asked the other roommate if there was any more beer in the room and he responded that there was more in the fridge. The student told officers that he and his roommate had a few beers earlier, but would not say how they got the beer. The officers noted that both men had red, watery eyes and slurred speech.
The other man spoke to his father on his cellphone and told him, “The cops are in my room because I have beer in my fridge.”
Both students were cited for minor in possession of alcohol and the beer was removed from the room.
Spell-check needed for graffiti bandit
A UAPD officer was conducting a routine check of the Highland Avenue Parking Garage on Aug. 25 when the officer noticed black spray-painted graffiti on the elevator doors of the sixth floor. The officer also observed similar black writing on the top of the elevator shaft.
The only words the officer could make out were “Fucc tha pigs” on the doors. The rest of the graffiti was illegible.
The officer photographed the graffiti and placed the photos into property and evidence. A victim’s rights form was mailed to the UA.
Another shoplifter gets booked
A UAPD officer met with UofA Bookstore security at 2 p.m. on Aug. 25 in response to a shoplifter in custody.
The security employee told the officer that he had observed a man take a textbook from a table, walk over to the Starbucks portion of the store and then place the book in his backpack. The man then paid for a separate binder at the cash register and left the store without paying for the book. The man identified himself and the officer read the man his rights.
The man said he had come into the bookstore to buy a few items and intended to pay. He said he had picked up a few items, including the textbook, and sat down at the Starbucks to look over some materials. When he was finished, he stuffed the materials back into his backpack and said he must have accidentally placed the textbook into his bag as well.
The man was arrested on charges of shoplifting and was cited and released at the scene. The employee advised the man not to return to the bookstore until he had made the proper arrangements through the Dean of Students Office or he would be arrested for trespassing.
Generous donor makes fraudulent PCard purchase
A UAPD officer spoke with an employee on Aug. 25 in reference to a fraudulent charge made to an employee’s purchasing card.
The card was used that morning online to make a $460 charge to Global Giving, a non-profit organization. The card was also used to make a $6.10 purchase to a hotel, but the charge was declined. The employee told the officer that the card had not left the department’s possession and that she did not make these charges.
The transaction was reported to Chase Bank for investigation. There is no further information at this time.
