The No. 10 Arizona men’s club hockey team stomped an undermanned and overmatched Texas Tech team 13-0 Friday evening and 12-2 Saturday.

Saturday’s game was little more than the Icecats (18-11) going through the motions after Friday’s win.

“”Of all the games you play, all the pressure-packed games these kids play … I’d rather coach these games any day,”” Arizona head coach Leo Golembiewski said of the series.

Golembiewski started six freshmen Friday night, including goaltender Nick Boddy, but it was the senior who stole the show.

On Friday night, when his brother D.J., a senior defenseman, returned to action, senior defenseman Mike Pelletier had five goals and three assists. Mike Pelletier was on fire from the start, having a hand in five of Arizona’s first six goals.

“”I don’t know what happened tonight, every shot I took just went in,”” Pelletier said, “”Hopefully we can all keep this going into nationals.””

Co-captain and senior forward Cole Dunlop had two goals and two assists in Friday night’s game. After the game, Dunlop expressed what most of the team was feeling: redundancy.

“”There’s times when you play a game like this, it gets redundant with the high scoring,”” Dunlop said. “”But we can’t take it lightly.””

Friday night set the tone for the weekend early, when freshman forward Cody Morin scored 29 seconds into the first period.

Boddy might have looked bored between the pipes during the rout Friday night but said he was one of the few Arizona players smiling coming off the ice.

“”It was a lot of fun for me,”” Boddy said. “”Coach gave me the green light to handle the puck, which is one

of my favorite things to do, so I tried

to make some crazy passes and stuff.””

The Icecats still have one series left before facing No. 6 Lindenwood in the opening game of the American College Hockey Association National Tournament in Westchester, Pa.

“”We’ve just got to use these remaining games to get ready for the real thing when we face Lindenwood,”” Golembiewski said.
