Tuesday Sept. 17, 2024 was National Voter Registration Day and voter registration has been at the forefront of organizations and voters alike gearing up for the 2024 general election. With messages about voting coming from platforms like Spotify, Google and friends’ Instagram stories, it is hard for young voters to ignore their upcoming civic duty.
At the University of Arizona, students have multiple opportunities to register to vote, as well as access resources to learn about their voting options and polling locations. While this is not comprehensive, the Daily Wildcat has compiled a list of everything students need to know and do before the election to get their voices heard and their votes counted.
When is the deadline to register to vote?
The deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 5 general election in Arizona is Oct. 7 (29 days before the election.) This includes registration in-person, online or by mail. Voters who will be 18 by Nov. 5, are eligible to register to vote by the Oct. 7 deadline. Registration deadlines to vote vary by state, so out-of-state students choosing to vote absentee in their home state’s election can find their state’s deadline on Vote.gov.
The Pima County Recorder’s Office and Elections Department has also created a guide specifically for college students with information about voting as a college student in Pima County.
Where can I register to vote?
Eligible voters can register online at Vote.gov or on a host of websites meant to help voters register and give them the information they need.
The Pima County Recorder’s Office and Elections Department will be hosting a voter registration event on Wednesday, Oct. 2, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on the UA Mall.
Can I vote in Arizona if I am an out-of-state student?
Eligible voters have the option to either vote in Arizona or in your home state.
What locations can I vote early at?
Students and members of the Tucson community can vote early Monday, Oct. 28 through Thursday, Oct. 31, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. and on Friday, Nov. 1, 8 a.m.-7 p.m. at the Santa Cruz Room on the third floor of the Student Union Memorial Center.

What locations can I vote at on election day?
Students and members of the Tucson community can vote on election day (Tuesday, Nov. 5) at First United Methodist Church, located at 915 E 4th St. from 6 a.m. – 7 p.m..

Where can I learn about the candidates on the ballot?
Arizona Clean Elections has a list of candidates where all interested parties have to do is enter their address and can then view the candidates that will be on their ballot from President all the way down to local sheriff elections.
How can I get involved with the election on campus?
The university and surrounding community has various politically active clubs that students can join to be civically engaged with their peers and advocate for their beliefs. These clubs include: Young Democrats, UA College Republicans, Turning Point USA and Keep AZ Blue.
