The University of Arizona men’s swim and dive team fell short to the University of Southern California on Friday, Nov. 8, despite earning 12 first place finishes and 36 top three finishes.
For the women, No. 9 USC defeated Arizona 193-107.
Brooke Earley and Eleni Gewalt had standout performances for the Wildcats despite the loss. Earley placed first in both diving events and Gewalt earned a first place victory in the 100-yard breaststroke as well as a second place finish in the 200y breaststroke.
On the men’s side, No. 21 USC outscored Arizona 169.5-130.5.
Ralph Daleiden, Haakon Naughton and Tomas Lukminas were some of the scoring leaders for the men, each finishing with one individual first placement and one individual second placement, in addition to Lukminas and Naughton earning top-three finishes for their respective relay teams.
Lukminas now holds the 16th best time in the country and a personal best 1:33.95 in the 200y freestyle. Daniel Young also highlighted the meet with a personal best of 52.66 in the 100y breaststroke, putting him at No. 17 in the country in the event.
Arizona’s relay teams also had impressive performances throughout the meet, with the men’s “A” team winning both the 200y medley relay and the 400y freestyle relay, ranking top 20 in the country for both. The women’s “A” team also earned second place in both the 200y and 400y relays.
