The No. 18 University of Arizona gymnastics team suffered its first loss of the season against the No. 4 University of Utah, scoring a 196.125. The Utes posted a 197.675 at their home arena, Jon M. Huntsman Center.
Uneven bars
The GymCats started off the meet on bars, scoring a 49.150. Sophomore Abigayle Martin scored a solid 9.80. Fifth-year Elena Deets added a 9.825 herself. Notably, sophomore Sophie Derr earned a season-high score and tied her career high, recording a 9.90 on bars. Senior Alysen Fears scored a 9.850.
Vault
Arizona transitioned to vault where the GymCats earned a 48.975. Junior Emma Strom, senior Elizabeth LaRusso and Fears each 9.775s. Senior Emily Mueller recorded a 9.80 and Martin achieved a strong 9.85.
Floor exercise
The GymCats scored a 49.075 on floor. LaRusso set a strong tone for the rotation, scoring a 9.775. Fears achieved a 9.850 and Martin followed with a 9.825. Mueller shined in her routine, earning a 9.875 which tied her high score and was the highest Arizona floor routine of the night.
Balance beam
Arizona posted a 48.925 in the last rotation of the night. Fears and Martin both scored 9.775s. Mueller led the rotation for the second time in the match, securing a 9.825 on beam. Deets followed closely with a 9.80.
