After Sunday’s match with the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders was postponed due to nightfall, the Arizona men’s golf team defeated the defending champions in the Calloway Match Play Championship Monday morning. The Wildcats also went on to oust the Texas Tech Red Raiders later Monday afternoon.
The ‘Cats were led by senior Rich Saferian, who has won all three of his matches going into today’s final consolation match against Indiana University.
Junior Tarquin MacManus and freshman Trent Redfern won two of their three matches, while junior Jonathan Khan won one, lost one and tied one. Sophomore Philip Bagdade has struggled this week, losing all of his three matches going into today.
The tournament is being held at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Marana, Ariz., the same venue used for the PGA Tour’s Accenture Match Play Championships.
Tomorrow’s final matches will begin with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
