Students will pay more this semester than last to register because of a hike in fees set last year by the Board of Regents.
In-state registration costs have risen $15 to $159.50 while out-of-state students will pay this increased registration and an extra non-resident tuition rise of $37.50 hiking costs to $604.50.
DIRECTOR OF Admissions David Windsor said enrollment had not dropped because of the hike in fees although it would be a few years before he could determine if higher costs caused lower enrollment.
The added revenue from the fees hike will help finance $813,000 of the approximately $40 million 1969-70 operational budget since the stat legislature did not appropriate sufficient funds last year for operational expenses.
UNIVERSITY officials had asked the legislature for $30.7 million and wee granted $28.4 million for this year’s operating expenses.
Entrance requirements have also been raised. Entering in-state high school students must be in the top two-thirds of their graduating class rather than upper three-fourths while out of state students are required to be in the upper half, instead of two-thirds of their graduating class.
