The UA men’s basketball staff is starting to take shape.
Newly hired head coach Sean Miller has hired James Whitford and Emanuel Richardson as assistant coaches, he announced Friday.
Whitford, 37, coached under Miller the last four seasons at Xavier with an emphasis on defense and recruiting.
“”I am thrilled to be joining the University of Arizona men’s basketball program,”” Whitford said in a statement. “”The rich history and tradition is something I’m excited to be a part. I look forward to many great years in Tucson.””
Thirty-six-year-old Richardson – whose nickname is “”Book”” – just finished his second year as a member of Miller’s staff at Xavier. In his first year on staff, the Musketeers posted a school-record 30 wins and advanced to the NCAA Tournament’s Elite Eight.
“”I’m interested in finding the best people for my staff,”” Miller said in a statement, “”and I believe that James and Emanuel are two outstanding coaches. Obviously, we’ve had a great deal of success together and I look forward to continuing that here at Arizona.””
