‘Cats fall to No. 17 Utah

The Arizona volleyball team was unable to bounce back after a loss to Colorado as they fell to the No. 17 Utah Utes, 3-1 (25-15, 25-15, 25-15).

The Wildcats came out swinging with powerful offense and took set one, 25-20. The last three points of the set came off of Utah attacking errors.

Utah was able to comeback and win set two, 25-15. The set was close out of the gate, but after runs constant runs by the Utes, the Wildcats fell behind 16-9 and where unable to recover the lost points.  

In three set, the Utes left the Wildcats in the dust taking the set, 25-15. Utah jumped out to an early 8-2 lead, and Arizona was never able to gain any traction, as the Utah lead stayed at or greater than six for the whole set. Utah was able to win the set four holding a strong score of 25-15, and to win the match, 3-1. 

For the Wildcats, sophomore middle blocker Devyn Cross and redshirt freshman outside hitter Elizabeth Shelton both finished with eight kills. Junior setter Mackenzie Hernandez, again starting in place of sophomore Julia Patterson, and finished with 30 assists and 12 digs.

For Utah, senior outside hitter Adora Anae finished the match with 13 kills and 19 digs, one dig short of tying her season high. Sophomore setter Bailey Choy finished with 37 assists and 13 digs.

The loss moves the Wildcats to 10-17 overall, 4-14 in the Pac-12. 

Arizona will stay on the road for their next match as they travel to Washington to take on the Huskies at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 22.
