Senior Standouts
Senior swimmer Simon Burnett has left his mark on the Arizona swimming and diving program, as this year alone he was named the Pacific 10 Conference Men’s Swimmer of the Year, won the 200-yard freestyle crown at the 2006 NCAA Championships and swam for three title-winning relay teams.
Throughout his career at Arizona, Burnett has been a power player. Last season he also won the 200y freestyle at the NCAA Championships, just as he did as a freshman. Burnett also holds the U.S. Open, NCAA and Pac-10 records for the event.
Burnett, who hails from Tetsworth, U.K., is part of the unprecedented Wildcats senior swimming class of 2006.
“”His impact speaks for itself,”” said Frank Busch, Arizona’s swimming and diving head coach.
Busch said Burnett is a swimmer who enjoys big moments, of which he has had plenty this season.
“”He is one of the best ambassadors for our team,”” Busch said.
Busch added that having someone like Burnett on his squad is a special thing and that Burnett’s leadership as well as his talent will be missed by the Wildcats.
“”Burnett is one of the most talented swimmers the program has ever seen,”” he said.
