Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs Joe Glover is resigning from the University of Arizona after one month on the job.
Glover’s hiring was announced July 1 and his resignation was announced in an email sent to the university community yesterday evening that stated Glover would be returning back to the University of Florida, where he originally hailed from.
“When I took on this important role as Provost, I intended to stay and was committed to becoming an integral part of this community, advancing the university’s success in the years to come,” Glover said in the email statement.
Glover said that he was asked back to the University of Florida to lend his expertise as the university undergoes major changes.
Glover expressed his gratitude for the Wildcat welcome he received when he first took the role and thanked President Dr. Robert C. Robbins for his efforts in bringing Glover to the University.
“I regret that I will not get to work alongside President Garimella and see his vision for the U of A unfold,” Glover added in the statement. “He is a superb choice to lead this university, and I wish him nothing but the best.”
“I will work with university leadership to support my successor and ensure a smooth transition in the coming weeks,” Glover said, recognizing the timing of his departure is right before the fall semester begins.
Mitch Zak, a spokesperson for the UA, made a statement addressing the departure of Glover early this morning.
“The University of Arizona thanks Provost Joseph Glover for his time at the university. We wish him well as he returns to the University of Florida, where he has spent the past 15 years. An interim provost will be appointed in the coming weeks,” Zak wrote in his statement.
