Two people were shot outside of Venture-N, a gay bar close to the University of Arizona campus, early Monday morning.
According to the Tucson Police Department, the shooting happened at approximately 12:30 a.m. The victims were identified as Vincent Anthony Siqueiros, 42, and Cameron Davis Capara, 33.
The suspect, Ousman Ceesay, 44, died on the way to the hospital after being transferred due to life-threatening injuries from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The shooting is under investigation as a hate crime. According to TPD, the suspect had a note with several LGBTQ+ associated businesses on it. In a recent statement, police said evidence suggests he acted alone and that the attack was “motivated by hate toward the LGBTQIA+ community. The suspect had recently arrived in Tucson, and police believe he had been in the city for only a short time before the attack.
According to the Chief of Police, Monica Prieto, there is no imminent threat to the community, and TPD is working to provide extra protection to various LGBTQ+ businesses across town.
“Tucson is, and always has been, a diverse community where people of different backgrounds, identities and experiences call this city home,” Prieto said. “We are committed to ensuring every member of our community feels safe, valued and welcomed.”

Mayor Regina Romero released a video statement on Facebook stating that this is a horrific and senseless attack on the community and encouraging those struggling with the news to contact the Pima County Attorney Victim Services at (520) 724-5525.
“To my LGBTQ+ community, you are not alone,” Romero said.
A candlelight vigil honoring the victims is on Sept. 2 at 6:30 p.m at Catalina Park.
