A woman reported losing her $400 iPhone and its $40 cover somewhere near or in McKale Center, 1721 E. Enke Drive, Thursday evening.
The woman said that she lost the 8-gigabyte device sometime during a basketball game. The phone is black with a silver-colored reflective surface on the back.
She did not have the serial number for the phone and said she just needed to report it to police for insurance purposes.
Police responded to the Student Union Memorial Center’s Information Desk, 1303 E. University Blvd., after a man tried to claim everything in the lost-and-found Thursday.
An employee said the man had attempted to claim lost-and-found property as his own when the possessions did not belong to him.
The employee said the man tried three times Tuesday and Wednesday to claim items.
He tried to obtain a watch, a palm pilot, sunglasses and a pen without success.
He also attempted to claim items at the Park Student Union, 615 N. Park Ave., Wednesday.
Previously, the man was successful at obtaining an mp3 player.
Police found an abandoned UA golf cart in the alley south of 7-Eleven, 1750 E. Speedway Blvd., and north of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority house, 1775 E. First St., at 1:21 a.m. Thursday.
The license plate number indicated the vehicle had been stolen.
There was no damage on the cart and no evidence that could have suggested a suspect.
A black Hyundai automobile valued at $3,500 was stolen from the Sixth Street Parking Garage, 1201 E. Sixth St., sometime between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Wednesday.
The vehicle’s owner said she remembered parking the vehicle on the north side of the third level of the garage in the morning, and when she returned, the car was gone.
An officer did not find any signs of forced entry in the area.
Inside the vehicle, the owner had kept five or more textbooks valued at approximately $500. Her laundry basket was in the vehicle, and she valued the stolen clothes at $500.
Her $200 stereo and her $500 RFID for the garage were also stolen.
A man was arrested for shoplifting a Harry Potter book from the UofA Bookstore, 1209 E. University Blvd., at 3:06 p.m. Wednesday.
An employee said the man had stolen a book and fled toward the UA Mall. Officers found the man, and he identified himself. He said he had been at the bookstore reading.
The man said he did not have any weapons on him but that he did have a book in his left-inside jacket pocket. He pulled out a copy of “”Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.””
The employee confirmed the man as the thief and told him that it was caught on videotape. The man said he was reading the book and decided to place the book in his pocket before leaving the store.
He added that he had the money to pay for the book and had never stolen anything from the bookstore before.
He was cited for shoplifting and released.
Two women were arrested for underage drinking at the “”fishbowl”” near Pueblo de la Cienega Residence Hall, 621 N. Highland Ave., at 4:52 a.m. Wednesday.
An officer saw the women and a man near the fishbowl. As he approached, the three ran eastbound along the south side of the residence hall. The two women were caught, but the man got away.
Both women had red, watery, bloodshot eyes, and the smell of intoxicants was coming from their mouths.
Both women admitted to drinking alcohol. “”I had a few beers,”” the first woman said, according to reports.
“”I had a Bud Light,”” said the other, according to reports.
One of the women said they had been at a party off campus, and the other added, “”My beer was in one of those red cups.
Yeah, party cups. You know, the yooge (short for ‘usual’),”” according to reports.
The women were cited and released.
