2015 five-star power forward Ivan Rabb announced on Monday night his decision to play for Cuonzo Martin at California over offers from Arizona, Kansas, Kentucky and UCLA.

Rabb is listed as the sixth overall and No. 1 power forward in his class, and it was widely expected he would pick Cal over Arizona.

At 6-foot-11, the McDonald’s All-American put up solid numbers during his senior season at Bishop O’Dowd High School in Oakland, Calif.

He said he chose Cal in large part with his comfort level with Martin. 

“Our relationship was very important,” Rabb told ESPN. “I got to know him off the court as
well. We didn’t always talk basketball. We talked about family, life in
general.”

Rabb’s commitment comes on the heels of ESPN’s No. 8 overall recruit Caleb Swanigan choosing Michigan State over Cal. Rabb, Swanigan and No. 2 overall recruit Jaylen Brown were speculated to be a package deal before Swanigan chose MSU.

After his decision, Rabb told ESPN he was going to talk to Brown right after he was done.

“I’m about to step outside and talk to him right now,” Rabb said.

For the Wildcats, the focus now shifts to graduate transfers, keeping its own and maybe one more top recruit.

Highly touted Drexel transfer Damion Lee has listed Arizona as one of his final five schools, and San Francisco transfer Mark Tollefsen has also been linked to the UA.

ESPN’s No. 10 overall recruit Stephen Zimmerman still has Arizona listed as one of his finalists, but it’s not likely that he’ll choose Arizona with the reports that Kaleb Tarczewski will be back next season.

Last but not least, Arizona forward Stanley Johnson is still mulling over whether to enter the 2015 NBA Draft or stay a Wildcat. CBS Sports reported Johnson is “torn” over his decision, and Huffington Post sports columnist Jordan Schultz tweeted on Sunday that Johnson is in contact with Lee about coming to Arizona together.

Regardless, the next week or two will be critical for the 2015-16 Arizona basketball team.
