The Arizona Icecats will close out their season this weekend at home, and no better way to do it than against in-state rival Arizona State.
The Icecats (14-11-2) have lost 14 straight to the No. 8 ranked Sun Devils (25-7-4), but that doesn’t have any effect on the players, according to Icecat head coach Leo Golembiewski.
“”We played them tough the majority of the games this season,”” Golembiewski said. “”Four out of the six games could have gone either way.””
ASU has defeated the Icecats by a combined score of 37-17 in six games this season. The Icecats look to rebound and play well this weekend not only to end the streak, but to end the season on a positive note.
“”We hope to play well and represent how we played the last two weekends,”” Golembiewski said. “”We need to play 60 minutes each night, play as best and hard as we can, and that’s all that I can ask for.””
The Icecats went on the road and swept Weber State and Colorado State in tough matchups the last two weekends.
“”We (executed) last weekend, and we rebounded from the injuries that we had,”” Golembiewski said.
ASU hasn’t lost since Jan. 24, at the hands of No. 6 ranked Minot State, who also defeated the Icecats twice earlier in the season, including once in overtime.
“”It would be nice to beat ASU,”” Golembiewski said. “”We just need to put together 60 minutes.””
The Icecats’ Facebook web page is calling for a “”white-out”” this weekend, and asks that everyone wear white shirts to send seniors Jordan Schupan, Micah Kneeshaw and Nick Taylor out with a “”memory they will never forget.””
