Imagine catching your dad doing “”the dirty deed”” with a woman who happens to be the nurse assigned to take care of your sick and dying mother.
In “”The Uninvited,”” this situation faces Anna (Emily Browning). Anna is plagued by dreams of her dead mother, and is convinced that she is trying to warn her about Rachael (Elizabeth Banks), the woman Anna’s father is seeing. Anna is also convinced that Rachel killed her mother. She and her sister Alex (Arielle Kebbel) investigate. Anna’s friend, Matt (Jesse Moss) says he saw something the night Anna’s mom died, which feeds Rachael’s suspicion.
“”The Uninvited”” grabs hold of emotions and encourages hating Rachael. Elizabeth Banks transforms from the psycho, nymphomaniac in “”The 40 Year Old Virgin”” to a psycho in general. Emily Browning and Arielle Kebbel portray convincing
sisters. Kebbel is able to convey the rage and disapproval of her father’s relationship with Rachael. However, the concept of the movie fell short. “”The Uninvited”” seems to be a combination of “”The Sixth Sense”” and “”The Grudge.”” High expectations were far from being met.
